Birdland owner Gianni Valenti: "We’re so excited to bring a beautiful new performance space to the center of the theater district. Creating the Birdland Theater below the club ensures we provide the same quality services our loyal customers have come to expect, while introducing them to a new galaxy of music and performers under our banner. With construction complete, the Birdland Theater will be a venue where any type of entertainment can, and will, happen.”

The venue will be programmed by Ryan Paternite and Jim Caruso featuring cabaret, jazz, dance, burlesque, comedy and more. The Birdland Theater will also allow for an extension of the current Broadway at Birdland programming with more performances by Broadway stars and limited-run off-Broadway productions.

“Birdland is a cultural treasure and has a rich tradition that we continue to build and expand upon,” said Jim Caruso. “This new space will allow us to showcase the best talent, and will also be a breeding ground for up-and-coming projects and creative endeavors.”

Birdland Theater provides the full restaurant and bar services of the jazz club. The space includes a new dressing room, bathrooms, kitchen and backstage area.

The architect for this project is: Michael Rait, BR Design Associates.

ABOUT BIRDLAND JAZZ CLUB:

Named for alto saxophonist and jazz pioneer Charlie "Bird" Parker who dubbed it "The Jazz Corner of the World," Birdland opened on December 15th 1949. For 60 years it has been home to jazz legends, from Parker, John Coltrane Duke Ellington and Count Basie to Oscar Peterson, Hank Jones, Diana Krall and everyone in between. The original 52nd street location was a cultural barometer and meeting place, inspiring the songs "Birdland" and "Lullaby of Birdland," and serving as a regular haunt for celebrities and cultural figures. The modern incarnation is a state of the art nightclub featuring award winning Southern and Cajun cuisine, first rate sound and lighting and a who's who of contemporary musical artists, 7 nights a week.
