PUBLIC RELATIONS ACCOUNT MANAGER

THE POSITION: 

  • The Public Relations Account Managers’ primary function is to cultivate and maintain a positive image and relationship between the client and the public via all forms of media. Account Managers play an integral role in the development, management, and execution of innovative publicity campaigns that fully realize the potential of a given client or theatrical property. Ideal candidates are proactive, highly organized, detail oriented, and effective communicators.

  • Account Managers directly report to Account Directors.

 

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to the following):

 

  • Assist in the development and execution of comprehensive communications strategies.

  • Assist in the management and coverage of assigned clients and theatrical properties via print, online, and other media by devising, executing, and managing a publicity plan that fully realizes said clients’ potential.

  • Devise unique and creative ways to engage the media and maximize coverage for any given theatrical property.

  • Identify, target, and stay ahead of emerging trends in theater, journalism, marketing, technology, and social networking platforms.

  • Create captivating, one-of-a-kind story pitches.

  • Write clear and compelling press releases that convey important client news.

  • Promote, create and implement special press activities including publicity junkets, press conferences and opening night press events.

  • Service daily media requests and act as production/client source of information.

  • Cover interviews and accompany an artist during interviews – requiring you to be knowledgeable about the media outlet and the production/project.

  • Oversee and manage pre and post show press events and photo opportunities.

  • Oversee and manage special events including opening night parties, critic performances, press events, red carpets, and award campaigns. Occasionally these responsibilities will occur during evening hours and on weekends.

  • Draft and disseminate memos and posting notices for interviews, events, press opportunities, press junkets, onsite interviews, theatre visits, photo shoots, opening nights, etc. as needed.

  • Prepare client update reports and campaign strategy documents.

  • Assist in the presentation of client update reports and campaign strategy documents at client marketing meetings, when needed.

  • Coordinate with outside digital, marketing, and advertising agencies to ensure continuity of the appropriate and approved client positioning and branding.

  • Work closely with the Account Director to manage any unexpected crisis situations.

  • Directly supervise and interface with P&C PR Account Coordinators and Interns as it pertains to administrative responsibilities and media monitoring.

  • Foster a spirit of teamwork and unity throughout P&C.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • An interest and passion for theater!

  • Knowledge of the theater and entertainment media landscape.

  • Three + years’ experience in Account Services, Communications, PR or Media Relations.

  • Three + years managing employees or teams recommended.

  • Marketing, PR, Communications, or other Liberal Arts degree recommended, but not required.

  • Ability and passion to thrive in an often hectic and rapidly changing environment.

  • Ability to remain calm and composed in high pressure situations with VIP artists.

  • Possess the organizational and time management skills needed to manage staff, workflow, and overall team efficiency.

  • Have a full understanding of media needs and media relationships.

  • Strong interpersonal and confident communication skills.

  • Flexibility and resiliency; self-supporting.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

  • Ability to adapt and become proficient in additional business software, as needed.
