Featuring scenic design by Tony Award winner Donyale Werle (Peter and the Starcatcher), costume design by Tony Award winner Clint Ramos (Eclipsed), lighting design by Tony Award winner Donald Holder (She Loves Me), sound design by Ken Travis (Aladdin), vocal arrangements by Deke Sharon (Pitch Perfect, “The Sing-Off”), music supervision by Rick Hip-Flores (Rocky) and casting by Binder Casting, Inc., In Transit begins performances on Thursday, November 10, 2016 and officially opens on Sunday, December 11, 2016 at Broadway’s Circle in the Square Theatre (235 West 50th Street).

With a book, music and lyrics by Academy Award winner Kristen Anderson-Lopez (Frozen), James-Allen Ford, Russ Kaplan and Sara Wordsworth, In Transit is directed and choreographed by three-time Tony Award winner Kathleen Marshall (Anything Goes, Nice Work If You Can Get It).

Featuring an a cappella score from Broadway’s freshest creators including musical minds behind Frozen and Pitch Perfect, In Transit is a new, modern musical, bringing to life a vivid tapestry of characters and music in the city that never sleeps…or stands still. Inspired by the vibrant rhythms of life on the subway, In Transit follows the intertwining lives of eleven New Yorkers, all hoping to catch the express train to success, love and happiness—and the stops they make along the way.

In Transit is produced by Janet B. Rosen for Six Train Productions. Scott Landis serves as Executive Producer.

The playing schedule for In Transit is as follows: Tuesday through Saturday at 8pm, with matinees Wednesday and Saturday at 2pm and Sunday at 3pm. Beginning Thursday, December 8, 2016, the playing schedule is as follows: Tuesday and Thursday at 7pm and Wednesday and Friday at 8pm, with matinees on Wednesday and Saturday at 2pm and Sunday at 3pm. Please note: There will be no performances on Thursday, November 24, 2016, Saturday, December 24, 2016 and Saturday, December 31, 2016. There will be additional performances on Friday, November 25, 2016 at 2pm, Monday, December 26 at 2pm and 8pm, and Thursday, December 29 at 2pm and 8pm. There is a performance on Sunday, December 25 at 7pm.

STEVEN "HEAVEN" CANTOR (Boxman), known as Heaven Beatbox, grew up in Alpharetta, Georgia. This visionary artist began beatboxing, creating and mimicking sounds at the age of fourteen. A vocal creative artist, he uses his vocal abilities in commercial entertainment as a voice-over talent and actor, and regularly performs live at music festivals, clubs and corporate events worldwide.

KEN TRAVIS (Sound Design). Broadway: Aladdin, Jekyll and Hyde, A Christmas Story the Musical, Scandalous, Newsies, Memphis, The ThreePenny Opera, Barefoot in the Park, Steel Magnolias. Numerous theaters and companies across the US, Canada and Europe and Australia.

DEKE SHARON (Vocal Arrangements). Heralded as "The Father of Contemporary A Cappella," (Entertainment Weekly), Deke Sharon is responsible for the current sound of modern a cappella, having created the dense vocal-instrumental sound in college, subsequently spreading it around the world. Deke produces "The Sing-Off" worldwide (USA, Netherlands, China, South Africa) and served as arranger, on-site music director and vocal producer for Universal's Pitch Perfect & Pitch Perfect 2 starring Anna Kendrick & Rebel Wilson. Deke founded the Contemporary A Cappella Society while in college, and is responsible for many seminal a cappella programs. He is also contemporary cappella's most prolific arranger, having arranged over 2,000 songs, with many of them in print worldwide with Hal Leonard/Contemporary A Cappella Publishing. His books include "Acappella Arranging" (2012), “A Cappella” (2015), and the upcoming “The Heart of Vocal Harmony." As the founder, director and arranger for the House Jacks for almost 25 years, the original "Rock Band Without Instruments," Deke shared the stage with countless music legends, including Ray Charles, James Brown, Crosby Stills and Nash, Run DMC, The Temptations, LL Cool J and the Four Tops, and performed for luminaries including President Bill Clinton. He has produced dozens of award winning a cappella albums (including Straight No Chaser, Committed, Nota, Street Corner Symphony and the Tufts Beelzebubs), created a cappella groups for Disneyland and Disneyworld, and frequently tours the world teaching students and professional singers. His voice can be heard in commercials and video games, including "Just Dance Kids 2.” He is one of only 20 honorary members of the Barbershop Harmony Society since 1938, as well as an honorary member of BYU Vocal Point, and received CASA's lifetime achievement award in 2016. You can see him on television on Lifetime’s “Pitch Slapped” (aka “Pitch Battle” in the Philippines, and “A Cappella Battle” in Israel).

RICK HIP-FLORES (Musical Supervisor) has recently conducted Fun Home, Beautiful, and Rocky on Broadway, and was Associate Conductor and Arranger at the Radio City Spectacular, directed by Mia Michaels. As keyboardist, credits include School of Rock, Aladdin, Billy Elliot, and Into the Woods (Delacorte); Musical Director of We Will Rock You (First National Tour), Jacques Brel is Alive and Well… (Zipper Theater), and numerous regional productions at the MUNY and Northshore Music Theatre; Music Supervisor of Heatwave: The Jack Cole Project at Queens Theatre in the Park, and ’Swonderful at Pittsburgh CLO. Richard graduated from Columbia University with a BA in Economics and Music. He is a published and award-winning composer/lyricist.

KRISTEN ANDERSON-LOPEZ (Book, Music, Lyrics) is an Oscar and Grammy-winning songwriter. Kristen and her husband, Robert Lopez, wrote the songs for Disney's Frozen including the quadruple-platinum hit song "Let it Go." She and her husband also wrote and produced all songs for the Disney film Winnie the Pooh (2011) and Finding Nemo, The Musical, currently in its 10th year at Disney's Animal Kingdom. She has done numerous short and full-length musical adaptations for Theatreworks USA, and she’s the co-creator of In Transit, which opened to critical acclaim Off-Broadway in 2010. Other honors (for which she is truly grateful) include Lilly, Harrington, and Dramatist Guild Fellowships. Upcoming projects include a new Disney animated film, Gigantic , Frozen 2, a Broadway bound version of an original musical, Up Here (last seen at La Jolla Playhouse) and an adaptation of Frozen for Broadway. Kristen lives in Brooklyn with her husband and their two daughters.

JAMES-ALLEN FORD (Book, Music, Lyrics) had his Off-Broadway writing debut with the production of If You Give a Mouse a Cookie and Other Story Books at the Lucille Lortel Theatre. Condensed Classics, for which he wrote music, toured nationally for Theatreworks USA. A member emeritus of the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Advanced Workshop, he received the Harrington Award for outstanding creative achievement. His music has been performed at the O'Neill Musical Theater Conference, the BMI Industry Cabaret, the Century Center’s New Artists Festival, the New York Fringe Festival, the Duplex Cabaret, the Donnell Library Songbook series, the York Theatre Developmental Reading series, the Kaufman Center’s Bound for Broadway series, nationally syndicated XM radio as well as various other night clubs and venues around New York City. James-Allen sang a cappella in college as a member of the Yale Whiffenpoofs.

RUSS KAPLAN (Book, Music, Lyrics) is one of the creators of In Transit (Primary Stages), which received eleven award nominations for its 2010 Off-Broadway production (including Lucille Lortel, Drama Desk, Drama League, and Outer Critics Circle nominations). Other work with In Transit co-author Sara Wordsworth includes Dear Albert Einstein (New York City Children's Theater; Off-Broadway Alliance nominee for “Best Family Show”), Shortstack (York Theatre’s 4@15 series), Vows (Marymount Manhattan College), High School Confidential (published by Dramatic Publishing), and the upcoming rock musical Minnesota. He has composed instrumental scores for Prospect Theatre Company and Third Rail Projects. His debut jazz album “The Ulysses Cycle” was recently released on Ropeadope Records. SARA WORDSWORTH (Book, Music, Lyrics) is a lyricist, librettist, writer, performer, and teaching artist. Her work in New York Theatre has been nominated for Drama Desk, Drama League, Outer Critics Circle, Off-Broadway Alliance & Lucille Lortel Awards, and she is the recipient of the BMI Jerry Harrington Award for Outstanding Creative Achievement in Musical Theatre Writing (Librettist), the Edgerton Foundation New American Play Award, and residencies at the Eugene O’Neill National Musical Theatre Conference and CAP21. Writing credits include the a cappella musical In Transit, the published family musicals Dear Albert Einstein and High School Confidential (Dramatic Publishing), a collection of four 20-minute musicals, Shortstack, and the alternative rock musical Minnesota. She has also developed content for Walt Disney Imagineering Creative Entertainment, as well as various regional theaters, venues, educational institutions, recordings, publications, and charities. Performances include work with the Roundabout Theatre Company, Walt Disney Animation Studios (Feature Film Frozen), Disney Creative Entertainment, and many others. In addition to writing and performing, Sara has served as a teaching artist for several colleges and universities. She sits on the Steering Committee for the Tony-Honored BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Writing Workshop and is a proud member of Actors’ Equity Association, The Dramatists Guild of America, Inc., and is a BMI Affiliate Artist. KATHLEEN MARSHALL (Director/Choreographer). Broadway credits include Living on Love, Nice Work If You Can Get It, Anything Goes, The Pajama Game, Wonderful Town, Grease, Little Shop of Horrors, Follies, Seussical, Kiss Me, Kate, 1776 and Swinging on a Star. Her Off-Broadway and regional credits include Two Gentlemen of Verona (NYSF), Saturday Night (Second Stage), My Paris (Long Wharf), Ever After (Paper Mill), Diner (Signature Theatre); Living on Love (Williamstown Theatre Festival); and The Unsinkable Molly Brown (Denver Center Theatre). She was the Artistic Director of City Center Encores! for four seasons, where she directed and choreographed The Band Wagon, I’m Getting My Act Together…, Bells Are Ringing, Carnival and Babes in Arms, among others. She choreographed the musical sequences in the film My Week with Marilyn. TV credits include “Once Upon a Mattress,” “The Music Man” (Emmy nomination) and “2 Broke Girls.” She has received three Tony Awards (out of nine nominations), three Drama Desk Awards, three Outer Critics Circle Awards, the Astaire Award, the George Abbott Award, the Smith College Medal (her alma mater), the Pennsylvania Governor’s Award for the Arts and has been named a Distinguished Daughter of Pennsylvania. She is an Associate Artist of the Roundabout Theatre Company and a member of the Executive Board of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society.
