Laura Benanti also starred in Roundabout’s production of Nine and Josh Radnor, Jane Krakowsi and Peter Bartlett starred in a special one-night only gala reading of She Loves Me in 2011. She Loves Me is a heartwarming musical comedy classic about finding love the good old-fashioned way. It follows Georg (Radnor) and Amalia (Benanti), two parfumerie clerks who aren’t quite the best of friends. Constantly bumping heads while on the job, the sparring coworkers can’t seem to find common ground. But little do they know, the anonymous romantic pen pals they have both been falling for happen to be each other! Will love continue to blossom once their identities are finally revealed?

The celebrated score features favorites such as “Vanilla Ice Cream”, “A Romantic Atmosphere”, “Dear Friend” and “She Loves Me.” The musical is based on a play by Miklos Laszlo, whose well-known romantic story was the basis for the 1940 James Stewart film “The Shop Around the Corner” and the 1998 Tom Hanks & Meg Ryan film “You’ve Got Mail”.

Major support for She Loves Me is provided by The Blanche and Irving Laurie Foundation.

She Loves Me benefits from Roundabout’s Musical Theatre Fund with lead gifts from The Howard Gilman Foundation and Perry and Marty Granoff.

JOE MASTEROFF (Book). Born in 1919 in Philadelphia, he had only one dream from infancy: to write for the theatre. After the essential lonely childhood and four year stint in the air force, he came to New York to face his future: book-writer or book seller? Luckily, luck intervened. Before long he had three shows on Broadway bearing his name: The Warm Peninsula starring Julie Harris, and two musicals She Loves Me and Cabaret, for which he was the book-writer. Thanks to indulgent parents, the New Dramatists, Hal Prince, and many others, he is now retired and living in subdued luxury.

SHELDON HARNICK (Lyrics). Mr. Harnick’s musical theatre career began in the 1950s with songs (e.g. "The Boston Beguine," "Merry Little Minuet") in revues on and Off-B'way. In 1957 he teamed with Jerry Bock to create the scores for a number of memorable musicals including Fiorello (Tony Award, Pulitzer Prize), She Loves Me (Grammy), Fiddler on the Roof (Tony), The Rothschilds and The Apple Tree. Other musicals: Rex (Richard Rodgers), A Wonderful Life (Joe Raposo), A Christmas Carol (Michel Legrand), The Phantom Tollbooth (Arnold Black and co-librettist Norton Juster) and Dragons (for which he wrote book, lyrics and music). He has contributed songs to the films The Heartbreak Kid, Blame It on Rio (Cy Coleman) and Aaron's Magic Village (Legrand). In the world of opera, he has provided librettos for Jack Beeson's Cyrano, Dr. Heidegger's Fountain of Youth and Captain Jinks of the Horse Marines, Henry Mollicone's Coyote Tales and Thomas Z. Shepard's Love in Two Countries. Mr. Harnick has won two Tony Awards, two Grammy Awards, three gold records and a platinum record. He and his wife Margery have two children, Beth and Matthew. He is a longtime member of the Dramatists Guild and Songwriters Guild.

JERRY BOCK (Music). Jerry Bock was born in New Haven on November 23, 1928. Thirty years later he and Sheldon Harnick gave birth to The Body Beautiful in Philadelphia. In between was Catch a Star and Mr. Wonderful (starring Sammy Davis Jr.). Bock and Harnick's celebrated collaboration yielded five scores in seven years: The Body Beautiful, Fiorello (winner of the B'way triple crown: Tony Award, NY Critics Circle Award, Pulitzer Prize for Drama), Tenderloin, She Loves Me, Fiddler on the Roof (nine Tonys, including Best Musical), The Apple Tree and The Rothschilds. In addition to the silver anniversary production of Fiddler (from which a major excerpt was featured in Jerome Robbins' Broadway), a highly esteemed revival of The Rothschilds enjoyed a successful run Off-B'way. Bock and Harnick have been inducted into the Theatre Hall of Fame, received the Johnny Mercer Award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame and were awarded the Spirit of American Creativity Award. But it was the award of an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from the U. of Wisconsin that Bock held near and dear, for it was there that he met his wife, and it was there that he decided to be a composer.
