Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director) is pleased to announce that the upcoming world premiere, Off-Broadway production of Joshua Harmon’s Significant Other, directed by Trip Cullman, will feature Barbara Barrie (Helene), John Behlmann (Will/Conrad/Tony), Sas Goldberg (Kiki), Gideon Glick (Jordan), Lindsay Mendez (Laura), Carra Patterson (Vanessa) and Luke Smith (Gideon/Evan/Roger).

Significant Other begins preview performances Off-Broadway on Thursday, May 21, 2015 and opens officially on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at the Laura Pels Theatre in the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre (111 West 46th Street). This is a limited engagement through Sunday, August 16, 2015.

A quarter-life coming-of-age story that’s as hilarious as it is heart-wrenching, Significant Other takes us into the trenches of single life in the city. Jordan Berman would love to be in love, but that's easier said than done. So until he meets Mr. Right, he wards off lonely nights with his trio of close-knit girlfriends. But as singles’ nights turn into bachelorette parties, Jordan finds that supporting the ones you love can be just as impossible as finding love itself.

Roundabout Theatre Company’s relationship with Joshua Harmon began when his play Bad Jews was selected for the inaugural Roundabout Underground Reading Series for Emerging Playwrights in February 2012. The play then premiered at Roundabout Underground’s Black Box in Fall 2012, in a sold-out extended run. In Fall 2013, Harmon’s Bad Jews moved upstairs to the 420-seat Laura Pels Theatre, enjoying a critically acclaimed extended engagement, and was the third most produced play around the country this season. In addition to Significant Other, a third Harmon play is in development, commissioned by Roundabout, with workshops set to begin in 2015.

The creative team includes: Mark Wendland (Sets), Japhy Weideman (Lighting), Kaye Voyce (Costumes), Jill Du Boff (Sound) and Sam Pinkleton (Choreography).

BIOGRAPHIES:

BARBARA BARRIE (Helene) has had a distinguished career in film, television and theatre. On Broadway, Ms. Barrie has appeared in The Selling of the President, The Prisoner of Second Avenue, California Suite, Torch Song Trilogy and Company (Tony nomination). She recently appeared Off-Broadway in I Remember Mama (OCC nomination). Other Off-Broadway credits include The Vagina Monologues, Current Events, After-Play, The Crucible, The Beaux’ Stratagem, Love Letters, Isn’t It Romantic? and The Killdeer (Obie and Drama Desk awards). Television credits include “Law and Order” (Emmy nomination), “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit” (Emmy nomination), “Breaking Away” (Emmy nomination), “Suddenly Susan,” “Enlightened,” “Nurse Jackie,” “Once and Again,” “Barney Miller,” “Thirtysomething” and “Family Ties.” Her mini-series and television movie credits include “Scarlett,” “Roots: The Next Generation,” “A Chance of Snow,” “My Left Breast,” “The Odd Couple: Together Again,” “Tell Me My Name,” “To Race the Wind,” “American Love Affair,” and “Barefoot in the Park.” Film credits include One Potato, Two Potato (Best Actress Award, Cannes Film Festival), Breaking Away (Academy Award nomination), Judy Berlin (Independent Spirit Award nomination), Frame of Mind, Second Best, Hercules, Private Benjamin, The Bell Jar and Thirty Days.

JOHN BEHLMANN (Will/Conrad/Tony) most recently appeared Off-Broadway in the world premiere of the Civilians’ Pretty Filthy and starred as Nuke Laloosh in the pre-Broadway engagement of the new musical Bull Durham. He starred in the Tony-winning New York production of The 39 Steps, and made his Broadway debut in the Tony-winning revival of Journey’s End. Other NY credits include Eager to Lose (Ars Nova); Wild Animals You Should Know (MCC); The Steadfast (SLANT); Trapeze Hero! (Ars Nova ANT Fest); and Ghosts (Pearl). Regionally, he’s appeared at the Alliance, McCarter, Bay Street, Shakespeare Theater Co., Denver Center, Magic, PCS, Guild Hall, NYSAF, and more. Films include Scorsese’s Wolf of Wall Street, Sam Mendes’ Revolutionary Road, Pretty Bird, and the upcoming indies Lies I Told My Little Sister and Stryka. GIDEON GLICK (Jordan) made his Roundabout Theatre debut as “Howie” in Speech and Debate by Stephen Karam. He first appeared on Broadway originating the role of "Ernst" in Spring Awakening, and was in the original cast of Spiderman: Turn Off The Dark. In 2012, Gideon appeared as “Jack” in Into the Woods for Shakespeare in the Park alongside an all-star cast of Amy Adams, Denis O’Hare and Jessie Mueller. Other Off-Broadway plays include Wild Animals You Should Know for MCC Theater and Samuel D. Hunter's The Few for the Rattlestick Theater. Regionally, Gideon has done work for The Old Globe, FringeNYC, Cherry Lane, Culture Project, Ensemble Studio Theater, Prince Music Theater and The Wilma Theater. Gideon had a recurring role in Lifetime’s “Devious Maids” and appeared in “Gods Behaving Badly” opposite Edie Falco and Christopher Walken. Other credits include “One Last Thing…,” “A Case Of You,” “And It Could Be Worse.” Most recently he could be seen in “Man Seeking Woman” with Jay Baruchel.

SAS GOLDBERG (Kiki) is thrilled to be making her Roundabout Theatre Company debut. Other New York credits include: David Adjmi's Stunning (Lincoln Center), The Best of Everything (HERE Arts Center) and The Urban Dictionary Plays (Ars Nova). LINDSAY MENDEZ (Laura) was most recently seen in The York Theater's production of Sondheim's Saturday Night. Prior to that she had the honor of playing Hermione in The Public's Shakespeare in the Park production of The Winter's Tale. On Broadway, she starred as Elphaba in Wicked, celebrating the show’s 10th Anniversary. Lindsay has received Drama Desk, Drama League and Outer Critics Circle nominations for her portrayal of Rose in the world premiere of Dogfight at Second Stage Theater, directed by Joe Mantello. Other Broadway/Off-Broadway credits include: Godspell (2011 Revival), Everyday Rapture, The Marvelous Wonderettes and Grease (2007 Revival).

The Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre opened in March 2004 with an acclaimed premiere of Lynn Nottage’s Intimate Apparel starring Viola Davis, directed by Dan Sullivan. In the ten years since that landmark production, the center has expanded beyond the Laura Pels Theatre to include the Black Box Theatre and now a new education center. The Steinberg Center continues to reflect Roundabout’s commitment to produce new works by established and emerging writers as well as revivals of classic plays. The 2014-2015 Roundabout Underground production is Little Children Dream of God, a new play by Jeff Augustin, directed by Giovanna Sardelli.

Roundabout’s 50th anniversary season in 2015-2016 includes: Clive Owen stars in Old Times by Harold Pinter, directed by Douglas Hodge; Andrea Martin stars in Noises Off by Michael Frayn, directed by Jeremy Herrin; The Humans by Stephen Karam, directed by Joe Mantello; Keira Knightley in her Broadway debut in a new adaptation of Thérèse Raquin by Helen Edmundson, based upon the novel by Émile Zola, directed by Evan Cabnet; and Joe Masteroff, Sheldon Harnick and Jerry Bock’s She Loves Me, starring Laura Benanti and Josh Radnor, directed by Scott Ellis. The 2015-2016 Roundabout Underground production is Ugly Lies the Bone, a new play by Lindsey Ferrentino, directed by Patricia McGregor.
